Phobias
Phobias can cause intense fear and anxiety that disrupt daily life and limit opportunities. Our goal at Epiphany Center is to help individuals overcome these fears, restore confidence, and reclaim the freedom to fully engage in life.
What is a Phobia?
Simple phobias are experienced in relation to particular objects, such as animals, or situations, such as heights, visiting the dentist, medical procedures, or perhaps flying. Complex phobias, by contrast, can be more severe and life-limiting. These include fears related to social interactions or agoraphobia—the fear of situations where escape might be difficult or help unavailable, such as being in open spaces, crowded areas, or enclosed places.
A phobia is typically experienced when an individual is facing (or can anticipate facing) the source of their fear, and it can be debilitating. Phobias can impede a person’s ability to function normally, including making it difficult or impossible to receive medical care, travel, or socialize effectively with others.

Treating Phobias
The front-line treatment for phobias is Exposure Therapy. This method involves gradually and safely facing the feared object, activity, or situation in a structured, supportive way. Over time, this process helps create a more balanced and empowered relationship with the source of fear.
A therapist trained in Exposure Therapy provides guidance, encouragement, and a clear plan for progress. They can help identify opportunities for healing, prioritize steps toward change, and support each stage of the journey toward freedom and an improved quality of life.
