Epiphany Center OCD & PTSD|Rachel Tombaugh

Rachel's Story

Rachel founded Epiphany Center after she personally saw how often OCD was incorrectly treated. Advocating for effective treatment became her life’s work, expanding beyond the walls of the office and into providing education for other professionals.

Her approach to psychotherapy utilizes a unique combination of compassion, warmth, humor, and clinical excellence. Rachel believes that therapy should feel hopeful and connected, yet maintain a focus on clinical sophistication and quality.

She has been working as a psychotherapist and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Arizona since 2011. She sees patients in person or virtually and is also licensed to practice in New Mexico.

Background and clinical experience

Rachel holds a B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University and a Master’s in Professional Counseling from Ottawa University. Her passion for helping people live with confidence and purpose has guided her throughout her career. She has advanced training in:
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
  • Inference-Based CBT (ICBT)
  • EMDR and other trauma-informed modalities
These evidence-based approaches support her work with OCD, anxiety disorders, and PTSD. Prior to opening Epiphany Center, Rachel spent more than a decade in public and private healthcare settings, including serving as:

  • Primary Therapist for eating and anxiety disorders (inpatient)
  • Clinical Director, developing trauma and anxiety programs
  • Clinical Supervisor, training and mentoring other therapists
Rachel is a frequent contributor to publications on OCD and anxiety, and a speaker with OCD Gamechangers, where she advocates for education, support, and community among those with lived experience.

Outside the office

When not with clients, Rachel prioritizes connection, creativity, and the outdoors—values that mirror her approach to therapy. She lives in North Phoenix with her family, a handful of rescue pets, and a family of screech owls who’ve made their home in a tree nearby. A lifelong animal lover, Rachel spends much of her downtime with her beloved horses, Angie and Gabriel, exploring trails and soaking up the Arizona sunshine. Whether she’s hiking with her kids, gardening, riding her horse, or relaxing in the quiet of the desert, Rachel draws inspiration from nature, movement, and meaningful relationships.
